Philip is the Trust Investment Manager and oversees the investment unit of the Trust and Financial Management Group. His responsibilities include the oversight of investment strategies, investment analysis and manager selections. Philip joined C&N in 2000. He was previously responsible for the delivery of C&N’s financial services, including the sales and service of Trust, Brokerage and Insurance services. He also retains administration duties for client accounts.

Prior to joining C&N, Philip’s experience at C&N, Prough Insurance Agency and Parente Randolph provided him with valuable skills and insight to lead his team to success at C&N. Philip’s driving philosophy is that “providing a deep, knowledgeable team gives our clients assurance that we have a sustainable support network to meet their changing financial needs. But it’s our personal service that demonstrates our clients will always be our primary focus.”

Philip is an honors graduate from Lycoming College, receiving his Bachelor's of Arts degree in Accounting. He received his Master of Business Administration from Colorado State University in 2012 and has held the designation of Certified Financial Planner® practitioner since 2003. He also holds various securities and insurance licenses.

In his 21-year career with C&N, James has worn many hats, starting as a management trainee back in 1999 and rising to his new post as Director of Wealth Management Operations. In this role, he’s responsible for all daily operational support for Wealth Management, coordinating with IT, and assisting with compliance oversight and retirement plan customer service. 

James has a B.S. in Business Administration from Mansfield University, and is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary and Accredited Trust Professional. When not at work, he coaches youth softball and soccer, golfs, gardens and enjoys watching his four children participate in extracurricular activities along with his wife, Kelly.

Doris Merrick, CPA, MBA, JD

Doris Merrick joined C&N in 2020 as Vice President and Senior Trust Tax Officer, bringing over 29 years of experience and knowledge to the Wealth Management team. Doris is a licensed CPA in North Carolina, a licensed attorney in New Jersey and North Carolina and earned the designation of Certified Fiduciary and Investment Risk Specialist (CFIRS) from the Cannon Financial Institute. Prior to joining C&N, she was a Trust and Estates Manager at a CPA firm in Madison, New Jersey for nine years. In her role as Senior Trust Tax Officer, she provides client-centered personal and fiduciary tax services. 

Doris earned her B.S. in Accounting from Hunter College, her MBA in Tax from New York University, and her J.D. from the University of Maryland. She is a member of the American Bar Association and State CPA Society. She spends her free time as organist at her local church, and volunteers for CASA in Morris County, NJ. Doris lives with her husband, Bruce Yeatman, and has one adult son, Philip.

Brian has been providing financial and investment advice to clients for 17 years. He graduated summa cum laude from Liberty University with a B.S. in Business Administration: Economics and a B.S. in Religion. As a licensed Series 7 broker and an Investment Advisor Representative, Brian holds several supervisory securities licenses and is a licensed life and health insurance agent in both PA and NY. Brian joined the C&N Trust & Financial Management Group in 2005 and has since gone on to earn the designations of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® practitioner as well as Certified Trust and Financial Advisor. He is on the Board of Directors for the Lycoming County United Way serving the Wellsboro Area, a Director for the Ossea Masonic Charitable Association and a member of Ossea Lodge No. 317 F. & A.M. Brian resides in Wellsboro with his wife, Renée, and their three children, Dylan, Ryan, and Rylie.

Marla McIlvain

Marla McIlvain’s experience is a clear indication of her professionalism and commitment to her customers. She obtained her Associate’s Degree for Secretarial/Liberal Arts in 1973 from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, and upon graduating began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Cowanesque and Tioga-Hammond Lakes Project. She then went on to work for Owlett & Lewis, PC for 20 years and Wolfe Communications for five years. Marla joined C&N in January of 2003. While employed at C&N, she completed the Cannon Trust School in 2004.
 
In her personal time, she volunteers for the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce assisting with the Laurel Festival Parade and is an active member of the Fellowship Committee at her church. In Marla’s own words: “C&N Trust and Financial Management Group is a “hidden gem” in our market area offering quality products and services for your lifetime and beyond at a reasonable cost.  We have honest, knowledgeable and caring staff that provides great personal service to all of our customers. Edward Penner

As a Financial Advisor for CNFS and Financial Consultant and Trust Officer for C&N, Edward has spent four years with us imparting his expertise to each and every client he serves. Through retirement income planning and overall financial planning, he helps individuals and families to take a wholistic view of their finances.
 
Edward holds a B.S. from Mansfield University and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University, as well as Series 7 and 66 registrations. Ed and his wife, Jody, enjoy camping and spending time with their two daughters and one son.

With eleven years of experience in the financial industry, Jay has plenty of knowledge. Each day, he helps clients through investment research and due diligence, performance attribution and analysis, trading and portfolio rebalancing, and help with fixed income investing.  

Jay has earned B.S. Degrees in both Accounting and Finance, and says that “The greatest professional satisfaction I know is being able to serve others. Being a part of the C&N Wealth Management team has given me that opportunity.”

Lynne Smith, CPA

A Certified Public Accountant working on tax return preparation, tax planning and departmental compliance, Lynne has been in the financial industry for 35 years. For the past seven of those, she’s spent her as part of the C&N family, using her knowledge and expertise to our clients’ advantage. Lynne received her B.S. from Elmira College and is currently a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She lives in Wellsboro, PA with her husband, Douglas, with whom she has two sons.

Holly Young, MBA

Holly’s role is critical at C&N, as she ensures that our Wealth Management department is operating effectively, efficiently and in compliance with all procedures. This attention to detail helps us to provide unmatched guidance to our clients.

Holly earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Mansfield University and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. In her personal time, she is an active member of St. Peters Catholic Church and volunteers her time as the co-director of the Pine Creek Dance Collective.

Scott Clark, CMFC, CLTC

Scott came to C&N in 2020 with 25 years of financial services experience already under his belt. He has an Associate of Applied Science degree from the Pennsylvania College of Technology and graduated from the Graduate School of Retail Banking at the University of Virginia. In addition, Scott is Certified in Long Term Care, a Certified Mutual Fund Counselor and a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow. He has Series 24, 7, 65 & 63 Securities Registrations, and holds Pennsylvania Life, Accident & Health Licenses. 

Scott is a former Liberty Borough Councilmember, has volunteered with a multitude of charities and enjoys outdoor sports with his wife and two daughters.

Karmen Persing

Karmen is an Investment Services Operations Specialist in Wellsboro. She has been with C&N for over nine years having previously held positions as an Investment Services Administrative Associate. In her current role, Karmen is responsible for administrative support for brokerage and insurance sales. Karmen has over 22 years in the financial industry and holds her Series 6 and Series 63 licenses.  In the past, she has worked as a Billing Supervisor at HNP Capital. She earned her Associates Degree in Fashion Merchandising at Bauder College in Atlanta, GA.

In her free time, Karmen enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband, Scott, and her two dogs, Duke and Bo.
